Funky Hair Day

Thank you Miss Brown for running this event.
Please see her media release below.

My name: Miss Tanya Brown
My age: 35
My suburb/town: Townsville
My goal: $560 (gives a regional family a free place to stay for a week, in the city close  for treatment)
Why I’m taking part
When I was only a little girl (around 2yrs old) my father was diagnosed with Non- Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. He was an amazing father, and did everything with us a normal father would do, and more! The only difference was that we regularly had trips to Townsville for his treatments – chemotherapy, radiation and specialist check-ups. He went through my whole life trying every treatment possible – just to see my brother and I grow up. In 1997, my father, my mother and I travelled to Brisbane for Dad to undergo a bone marrow transplant. The Leukaemia Foundation gave my mother and I a place to stay, close to the hospital while my father received his transplant. We were provided with food hampers, use of a car, and had amazing support while we were there. It was also Christmas time, and I remember receiving Christmas gifts from the Leukaemia Foundation (even though I was 17yrs old)! This was very special to me, and made this time a lot more bearable. Even though the bone marrow transplant did not save my father’s life, I will never forget the time I got to spend with him during that last Christmas due to the support of the Leukaemia Foundation. That is why I am raising money again this year! I would like to know that I could help another family, the way my family was helped!
What I’ve done so far
Townsville South State School will be hosting a “Funky Hair Day” on Friday 11th March, 2016.
Students are asked to bring along a $2 donation on the day, and get their hair sprayed, hair chalked or done in a funky design on the day. They may also come to school hair with their best funky hair style, and it will be coloured at school. Staff, parents and community members can also make donations, on or after the event, at the school (Miss Brown has a receipt book for donations over $2).
